SurveysAuthors' Survey
ICLA is conducting a survey into authors' incomes from their writing.
We hope that the results of the survey will be of considerable assistance to those arts organisations which provide schemes that assist authors and to those bodies which play an advocacy role on behalf of authors.
The survey has now closed. Many thanks to those of you who took part. We will bring you the results in the Spring.
Photocopying Surveys
Most institutions find it administratively difficult to keep records of all copying all of the time. Under the survey system, institutions are relieved of the burden of full-time record keeping. Institutions find it easier to provide complete and accurate records of copying if they are only required to for a short period of time.
Surveys are carried out every three years on a rotational basis. Institutions are advised in advance of a survey taking place and staff members are asked to keep accurate records of copying during the survey period (usually three to six weeks).
The survey gives reasonably accurate data, without the administrative costs of keeping and processing records of all copying all of the time. Distributions to authors and publishers are made on an annual basis based on the survey results.
School Surveys are taking place in the academic year 2009 2010. Schools have been selected by a statistician and will be asked to keep records of copying for a three week period.
